John Phillips

John Phillips

President of the Roanoke-Blacksburg Technology Council

John is a graduate of Virginia Military Institute and holds an MBA from Virginia Tech. He is a longtime resident of the Town of Blacksburg and has worked in various roles in the Roanoke and New River Valleys. His experience spans from leading the Economic Development Office at Virginia Tech to assisting in the launch of the Knowledgeworks program at the VT-CRC. john has years of experience mentoring entrepreneurs, has assisted numerous start-ups in their pursuit of capital, and has deep experience navigating the university’s technology transfer process.  In addition to his civilian career John is retired from the United States Army Reserve where he completed a 30 year career retiring as a Colonel.

Tangie Hall

Tangie Hall

Events Coordinator at Roanoke - Blacksburg Technology Council

A Pulaski County native, Tangie’s background stems largely from the Technology sector. She is a creative thinker and has worked in accounting, project & event management and data analysis. She currently resides in Christiansburg with her sons Trevor and Nate, and her Shih Tzu, Lilly. In her spare time, she enjoys visiting local winery/brewery venues, reading, learning the art of calligraphy and supporting her sons in their extracurricular activities.

Mary Miller

Mary Miller

Director of Regional Acceleration and Mentoring Program (RAMP)

Prior to becoming Director of RAMP, Dr. Mary Guy Miller was president and founder of Interactive Design and Development, Inc. (IDD), an award-winning IT firm in Blacksburg, Virginia. Under her leadership, IDD served a wide range of organizations, including Fortune 500 companies, for more than 27 years. Additionally, Mary has provided IT solutions for the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), the Smithsonian Institution, and the Library of Congress. Mary was a founding member and former president of the RBTC and has served on many boards and advisory committees, including Virginia Tech’s College of Engineering Committee of 100. Dr. Miller received her master’s of information science (MIS), as well as her doctorate in instructional design from Virginia Tech. When she’s not working, Mary enjoys traveling with her husband and spending time with her grandchildren.
