Engagement Matters, says Amanda Stuart

I think everyone can agree that 2020 was a year never expected. A year where many organizations rushed to implement a “plan” for telecommuting while ensuring employees felt safe, motivated, and valued. A year that HR professionals were put to the test; a test that no one was expecting or better yet, a test that no one knew how to take! Internal policies were challenged, communication efforts were intensified, and constant change was unavoidable. If you weren’t checking in on your HR leader, you should have been! HR was in the background working tirelessly to ensure employees felt connected during a pandemic, families were comforted for the loss of loved ones, and parents had the flexibility to teach children at home – all while staying up to date on the latest COVID-19 numbers, implementing Governor mandates as well as completing the routine HR responsibilities. Fast forward a year later and organizations are still navigating through the COVID-19 pandemic, but at a different level. Now, HR leaders are managing how to travel during a pandemic, how to manage remote employees long-term, how to grow and develop virtually, and how to continue a culture of positive attitudes, and business success.

As one can imagine, the field of Human Resources is not for everyone. HR leaders choose this area of expertise because they: strive for constant change, enjoy that every day is different, appreciate challenges, have influence, feel gratification when solving problems, and most importantly, want to make a difference! With that being said, the biggest challenge for HR leaders is setting boundaries, having a desirable work/life integration, and not feeling alone- which is all part of the reasons why the RBTC, HR Roundtable was created!

Navigating HR is challenging even without a pandemic, but as the world of HR changes, I could not be more thankful for this trusted group. So, what is the HR Roundtable? A group of senior HR professionals who confidentiality share challenges and successes without judgment. A group focused on leading, growing and changing the vision of human resources. Gaining insight on retention strategies, total rewards, professional development, recruiting techniques, effective HR tools, compliance regulations, and succession planning are just a few trending topics that we discuss. Every professional needs a mentor, a coach, a colleague, and a friend, and with the HR Roundtable, we have all of those things.

If you are a senior HR leader looking for a trusted group who can directly relate to your experiences, help solve unique problems, and have a strong desire to achieve success as a community, take a look here. All interested RBTC members must hold a senior HR position and go through our interactive application process.
