Meet the Speakers:
Eileen Quirk Baumann – President, Uncork-it
A seasoned strategist and publicity expert, Eileen is the founder of Uncork-it, a firm that specializes in technology marketing. In her 35+ year career, Eileen has been involved in all aspects of marketing communications, with particular emphasis on introducing new technology to the marketplace and helping it gain market share. Previously, she served as a marketing consultant, building remote teams on both coasts. She also worked in international communications for DuPont and in advertising and public relations for Air Products & Chemicals. Eileen holds a B.A. in Journalism/Science Writing and Economics from Lehigh University and did graduate work in advertising design at Syracuse University.
Melissa Vidmar – Business Development and Communications Manager, Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center
A 20+ year seasoned public relations, marketing and communications professional, Melissa served as Public Relations Manager and then as Communications Director at Virginia Tech, and Associate Director of Communications at Radford University. During her time at Radford University she also served as interim editor for the Radford University Magazine.
She began working at the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center in 2013 as the Business Development and Communications Manager where she helps tenants/companies grow their businesses and manages the internal/external PR, marketing and communications. She has previously served as communications chair for the Association of College Unions International Board of Directors (Region III) and board member for The Lyric. Melissa is also a past Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) award winner and Communication Excellence Award Nominee. She was recently accepted into the Harvard Business School Leadership Principles certification program that begins June 2020.
Erin Daugherty – Director of Account Services, Uncork-it
Erin is a master at fitting strategy to a real-world plan, on time and on budget. She is an expert on media and marketing channels and can clearly communicate the tradeoffs and benefits between marketing activities. She has nearly two decades of experience in the advertising world, managing projects and media buys for large corporations and small businesses. She has worked for Latorra, Paul & McCann Advertising in Syracuse, NY; Claritas, a division of Nielsen, in Ithaca, NY; and HealthNet in Rancho Cordova, CA. She earned her B.A. in communication from the University of Kentucky.
Kara Baumann – Director of Strategy, Uncork-it
With the heart of a data scientist and engineer and soul of a musician, Kara excels at developing creative strategies that hit their target. She delights in finding meaning from all kinds of data sources and making complex or technical messages clear for a variety of audiences. She was the lead on developing Uncork-it consumer emotional testing paradigm. Kara has a degree in economics from Virginia Tech, with concentrations in electrical engineering and philosophy. She is an experienced presenter and trainer and has achieved the highest level of distinction through Toastmasters International – Distinguished Toastmaster.
