Docker is the latest “buzzword” floating around the industry and there’s certainly a lot of hype! But, is it really worth your time? Why should you even care about Docker? What is an image? What is a container? How are containers different than VMs? How does Docker change my organization’s culture? If any of these questions sound familiar, you don’t want to miss this presentation! Michael Irwin, a Docker Captain, will explain answers to each of these questions, as well as talk about how and why Docker is truly changing the software industry. By the end, you will have the basic understandings to build, ship, and run your applications on your laptop, in your own datacenter, or in the cloud.
Michael Irwin is an Application Architect at Virginia Tech who spends 80% of his time as a developer and 20% of his time evangelizing current DevOps practices through the use of CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and Amazon Web Services (AWS). He is active in the community, running the Docker Blacksburg Meetup, and was recognized by Docker as a Docker Captain in March 2017. He’s a passionate instructor and learner, always striving to better himself and others.
